Beauty and the Beast is the adaptation of a narrative by Madame de Villeneuve. Printed anonymously in 1740 as La Jeune Américaine et les contes marins, it paints a portrait of Belle, a joyful and touching younger lady who falls in love with the Beast, a cursed creature seeking love and redemption. In 1760, a condensed youngsters’s model was revealed. It was from this model that Jean Cocteau and then Walt Disney drew their well-known diversifications. Overshadowed, the authentic model by Madame de Villeneuve has by no means been tailored for the display… till now!
